Technical overview
Melanotan 2 is a seven-amino-acid cyclic peptide developed at the University of Arizona. The ring, formed by a lactam bridge, makes it stable and lets it act on melanocortin receptors 1, 3, 4 and 5, not only the pigmentation receptor MC1R.

Melanotan 2 is studied in pigmentation research through MC1R, and in appetite, energy-balance and sexual-function research through MC3R and MC4R.
