Glutathione Overview

The body's main antioxidant: a tripeptide found in nearly every cell.

Technical overview

Glutathione is made of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, joined through an unusual gamma bond that protects it from normal protein breakdown. The thiol group on its cysteine is what neutralises reactive oxygen species, as glutathione cycles between its reduced (GSH) and oxidised (GSSG) forms.

Research applications

Glutathione is studied in oxidative-stress, detoxification and liver research, in skin-pigmentation studies, and as a marker of cellular redox balance.

FAQs

  • What is glutathione?

Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and the main antioxidant inside mammalian cells.

  • What is glutathione studied for?

Glutathione is studied in oxidative-stress and detoxification research, including redox balance, free-radical neutralisation and liver metabolism.

  • How is glutathione tested?

Every batch goes to an independent lab. The current batch was tested across three vials for purity (RP-HPLC), identity (LC-MS), net peptide content, endotoxins, heavy metals and sterility. Each batch's certificate of analysis is published on the lab results page.

  • How should glutathione be stored?

Keep the sealed vial in the refrigerator at 36–46°F (2–8°C), dry and away from light. As a freeze-dried powder it tolerates room temperature for weeks, which is why it ships without ice. Once reconstituted, keep it refrigerated between uses. More in our guide, Do peptides need to be refrigerated?

  • How much glutathione is in a vial?

Glutathione comes as a white lyophilized powder in a 1500mg vial.

  • Is glutathione for human use?

No. Glutathione is sold for laboratory research use only.
