AOD-9604 Overview
A 16-amino-acid piece of human growth hormone, studied for fat metabolism without growth hormone's other effects.
Technical overview
AOD-9604 is the C-terminal end of human growth hormone, residues 177 to 191, with a tyrosine added at the front: 16 amino acids closed into a loop by a disulfide bond between its two cysteines. It was developed at Monash University in Australia, and its name comes from its original target, Anti-Obesity Drug 9604.
Research applications
AOD-9604 is studied in fat-metabolism research, including lipolysis (fat breakdown) and lipogenesis (fat storage) in fat cells and body-composition models. In published studies it did not raise IGF-1 or blood glucose the way full growth hormone does, which is why it is researched on its own.
